The co-director of Ontier's M&A area Víctor Artola has been interviewed by Iberian Lawyer magazine, which has chosen him as its Young & Unstoppable this month
Asked what he considers most challenging about his current job at Ontier, he points out that it is having to 'combine many things at once, right now the issue of co-direction or directing an area forces you to combine three different areas. On the one hand, management of teams, people, organization, and, on the other, commercial acquisition. The office instills in you from the beginning what it is like to work with a client and how to attract clients in the best of the senses. The technical part is given exceptional value. Have technical capacity, practical involvement and problem solving. Combining those three things when you have to divide your time, either you have a good team or it's impossible.'
Víctor Artola tells Iberian Lawyer that a few years ago he could not imagine being where he is today, but that 'the life of the office moves very quickly. I've been very lucky too. First, the office bet on me and bet on young people. In that sense, the firm's commitment to talent is brutal. There is a lot of work from the entire team that has a reward. With Jorge Perujo we have a brutal treasure that is the possibility of directing a department. In five years I see myself leading the department to being a 'number one' in the world of M&A. I think we are very well positioned, but we want to grow. Ontier's competitive strategy is closely linked to the firm's commitment to Latin America and all the offices we have abroad, to be global. Becoming number one in the sector, along with the global issue, working around the world, is our challenge.'
Regarding what it is like to work at Ontier, he states that 'when you surround yourself with the right people around you, who combine character and know how to do things, together with an office management that has a very clear strategy, it becomes very easy. What we do with Jorge is adapt to the strategy, the office helps us a lot and in that sense, give everything each year to continue growing.'
Víctor Artola shares his experience from Iberian Lawyer and offers some advice to younger people. 'Languages are fundamental and having perfect English is very important. The other, the capacity for effort. Nobody gives anything away here, there are no secrets in the formula to get what you want. Have a capacity for sacrifice, effort and above all for study. The last thing, have the ability to adapt. You have to blend in with the environment, with the people you work with, with the situations. I think that is something very important. Knowing how each one works is very important to generate connection. Each client is different, each client works differently and if you have the capacity for internal adaptation, you will have it with the client.'
