Oliver is a solicitor and barrister with over 25 years’ experience of big-ticket international disputes. He takes time to understand his clients' needs in order to be able to provide a highly strategic approach to achieve his clients' aims and resolve disputes in the most effective way.
Oliver heads up Ontier's disputes practice in London, having joined the firm in 2011, made partner in 2016 and managing partner in 2023.
Oliver's work is almost exclusively international and cross-border in nature. He has handled cases involving disputes arising out of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. He has acted in virtually every sector, including most recently accounting, banking and finance, commodities, digital assets, energy, insurance, intellectual property, real estate and shipping.
Oliver has particular experience of international arbitration, including under the auspices of the ICC, LCIA and LMAA as well as ad-hoc arbitration proceedings.
He has particular expertise in fraud disputes having handled several very large fraud disputes and has published many articles on this topic.
Work highlights
Acted for Tulip Trading in its ground-breaking £3 billion claim against the developers of various bitcoin networks - Tulip Trading vs van der Laan and others [2023] EWCA Civ 83.
Acted for a Russian respondent to substantial and confidential LCIA arbitration proceedings with a value approaching USD100 million.
Acted for a Saudi Arabian based investor in bringing claims, including in fraudulent misrepresentation, against an English based defendant arising out of joint venture to invest in property in the UK and Europe.

Qualifications and memberships
- Graduated from the University of Sheffield (LLB) in 1993.
- Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in 1994.
- Member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 1994.
- Admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1998.
